SCG9608 - Hungary 1919 “Köztársaság” Overprint on 20 Fillér King Charles IV
1 in stock
This Hungarian 20 fillér definitive features King Charles IV and was originally issued under the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Following the fall of the monarchy in 1918–1919, existing stocks were overprinted “Köztársaság” (“Republic”) to mark the transition to the Hungarian Republic. The stamp is printed in a rich brown tone with fine portrait engraving and bold diagonal overprint. Such transitional overprints are highly collectible due to their political significance and numerous minor varieties in type and placement. A solid example for collections focused on Hungary’s post-WWI provisional issues and overprint studies.
