A classic colonial-era definitive from Mozambique, featuring the iconic Ceres allegory, one of the most famous designs of the Portuguese Republic. This example bears a provisional surcharge of 1/– on the original face value, applied to meet changing postal rate requirements—a frequent and collectible feature of Mozambique issues of this period. Printed by the Portuguese Mint (Casa da Moeda), the stamp shows deep brown engraving with excellent detail. Surcharged Ceres stamps are sought after for their numerous varieties, overprint styles, and occasional errors.
