SCG9245 - China – Sun Yat-sen Definitive with Surcharges (c. 1949–1950)
1 in stock
This striking Chinese definitive features the classic portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen from the 3-cent brown issue, later subjected to multiple provincial overprints during the turbulent late 1940s inflation era. The stamp bears a bold green “伍圓 / 國幣” (5 Yuan National Currency) surcharge along with black overprint characters and a boxed “100.00” surcharge applied by a regional postal authority. Such multi-layered surcharges reflected ongoing currency reforms and emergency postal adjustments near the end of the Republic’s mainland era. This variety is popular among specialists for its complex typography, regional usage, and the distinctive interplay of overprint colours. A strong example and an important piece of China’s postal-inflation history.
