SCG9178 - Georgia – 5000 Ruble Surcharge on 250 Kopeck Arms Issue (c.1920)
1 in stock
A striking provisional issue from the short-lived Democratic Republic of Georgia, this stamp features the green 250-kopeck fiscal/postal design showing the national coat of arms and ornate geometric framing. Amid severe post-war inflation, the original value was superseded by a bold black diagonal surcharge reading “5000 руб.” in Georgian script. Such high-denomination surcharges are classic hallmarks of the 1919–1921 hyperinflation period just before Soviet annexation. Clean margins and a sharp overprint make this an appealing example for specialists in Transcaucasian provisional issues, inflation surcharges, and early Georgian philately.
