SCG9170 - Saar 60c on 3f Orange “Industrial Worker” Surcharge (France Administration)
1 in stock
This striking surcharge issue from Saar, under French administration after WWII, features the familiar image of a muscular industrial worker wielding a hammer—symbolizing the region’s coal-steel economy. Originally issued as a 3 franc definitive, it was later overprinted “60 cent.” in black to meet revised postal rates. The bold horizontal bars partially obscure the old value, a typical feature of Saar overprints from the late 1940s–early 1950s. Printed in a vivid orange-red tone, the design captures the region’s industrial landscape with detailed factory scenes in the background. A desirable item for collectors of Saargebiet, post-war European administration, and surcharged definitives.
