This striking 1½d Malta stamp features King George VI alongside an engraving of the famed Neolithic Hypogeum of Ħal-Saflieni, one of the island’s greatest prehistoric monuments. Originally issued in the 1938–43 definitive series, this example carries the bold red diagonal “SELF-GOVERNMENT 1947” overprint, marking Malta’s restoration of internal self-rule after World War II. The overprint transforms the original definitive into an important transitional issue reflecting Malta’s political evolution.
