SCG8968 - Austria – 1867 Franz Joseph I, 2 Kreuzer (Typographed), Used
Out of stock
This is an Austrian Empire 2 Kreuzer stamp from the 1867 issue, featuring the laureate profile bust of Emperor Franz Joseph I, printed in red by typography. The design shows the classic ornamental frame typical of the 1867–1883 Austrian issues, with fine scrollwork in each corner. Your example is used, with a heavy circular cancellation that partly obscures the portrait—common for this period.
These early Austrian stamps are sought after for their numerous shades, perforation varieties, and plate differences, and the 2 kr red is one of the benchmarks of classic Austrian philately. A solid piece for any 19th-century Austria collection.
