SCG8797 - Germany (Ostland) 1941 – 50 Pf Hitler Definitive Overprint
1 in stock
This is a 50 Pfennig definitive of Germany, originally issued in the early 1940s during the Third Reich period, depicting the regime’s leader in profile. The example shown carries the “OSTLAND” overprint, denoting postal use in the Reichskommissariat Ostland, the German-occupied territories covering Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and parts of Belarus from 1941–1945. These occupation overprints were produced in limited quantities and today form an important historical subgroup within wartime philately.
Collectors examine these closely for type variations, overprint alignment, and paper quality, as genuine occupation issues were often crudely applied and later widely forged. Well-centred, cleanly printed examples are increasingly sought after due to the complex postal history of Eastern Europe during WWII.
