SCG8708 - Sweden 1982 – Rural Land Redistribution: 1800 to 1860 (EUROPA)
1 in stock
This Swedish 1.65-krona Europa stamp from 1982 illustrates the historic transformation of rural farm layouts during Sweden’s agricultural reforms. The left panels depict oskilftade gårdar (unpartitioned farms) as they appeared around 1800, with scattered, fragmented land strips surrounding clustered farmsteads. The right panels show lagaskiftade gårdar (reorganized farms) of 1860, created after the major land consolidation reform Laga Skiftet, which grouped fields into larger, contiguous holdings and relocated farmhouses to their new unified plots. Designed with fine line engraving by G. Österlund and engraved by I-K. Eriksson, the stamp is part of the 1982 Europa theme highlighting historical development in European rural life. A beautifully detailed issue valued for its historical depth and precise cartographic engraving.
