SCG8543 - Costa Rica Airmail Overprint Stamp (¢0.35 on 75 Centimos)
1 in stock
This Costa Rican Correo Aéreo (airmail) stamp originally had a face value of 75 centimos and features a striking image of a pre-Columbian gold figurine, a motif reflecting Costa Rica’s rich indigenous art and archaeological heritage. The design was printed by the Imprenta Nacional de Austria – Viena, indicating Austrian production quality common in mid-20th-century Latin American issues.
A bold ¢ 0.35 surcharge was later overprinted to reflect a new postal rate—typical of Costa Rica’s inflation-period revaluations. Collectors prize these overprinted issues for their historical postal adjustments and fine engraving.
