SCG8010 - Austria 1946 – 950 Years of Austria: Church of St. Michael, Hirt
1 in stock
This 30g + 70g red semi-postal stamp was issued by Austria in 1946 to commemorate 950 Jahre Österreich (950 Years of Austria). The design by H. Woyty and R. Frankl features the Romanesque Church of St. Michael in Hirt, Carinthia, one of Austria’s oldest surviving medieval churches. Its sturdy stone tower and simple nave evoke the architectural heritage of early Christian Europe. The surtax from this issue supported postwar reconstruction and cultural preservation, making it a meaningful addition to Austrian commemorative philately.
