SCG7837 - IFNI 1952 Colonial Stamp Day – Great Crested Grebe
1 in stock
Issued in 1952 by the Spanish colony of Ifni, this 60 + 15 cts stamp commemorates Día del Sello Colonial (Colonial Stamp Day). The design, printed by the F.N.M.T. in deep green, beautifully depicts a Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus), a graceful aquatic bird common to African and Mediterranean waters. The additional 15 centimos surtax supported colonial postal development. This elegant issue reflects both Spain’s natural history themes and the cultural identity of its African territories in the early 1950s.
