Issued by the Republic of the Philippines in 1998, this ₱8 commemorative stamp honors Marcelo H. del Pilar (1850–1896), one of the foremost figures of the Philippine Propaganda Movement. A reformist writer, lawyer, and editor of La Solidaridad, del Pilar used his pen to campaign for civil liberties and reforms under Spanish rule. The stamp features a finely detailed portrait of him, accompanied by the Philippine national flag above and the year of issue below. It was part of a national series celebrating heroes of the Philippine independence movement during the centennial year of independence.
