Issued by the République Française in 1966, this semi-postal stamp (0.30 + 0.10 F) commemorates the celebrated French novelist Marcel Proust (1871–1922), author of À la recherche du temps perdu (“In Search of Lost Time”). Designed and engraved by Pheulpin, it features a fine portrait of Proust beside a serene river landscape evoking Illiers-Combray, a key inspiration for his literary settings. The additional 10-centime surcharge supported cultural and literary causes, reflecting France’s tradition of promoting national heritage through philately. A classic mid-century issue admired for its engraving quality and literary theme.
