1 in stock
Issued by Vatican City in 1964, this 10 Lire black and gray stamp commemorates the 400th anniversary of the death of Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475–1564), one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance. The design features a finely engraved portrait of Michelangelo based on the painting housed in the Pinacoteca Capitolina (Capitoline Picture Gallery) in Rome. The architectural frame at the top bears the dates “1564–1964,” marking the anniversary, while “Poste Vaticane L.10” appears at the bottom. Designed by C. Dąbrowska and engraved by Alceo Quieti, it reflects the Vatican’s deep reverence for Michelangelo’s artistic and spiritual legacy.
