SCG7439 - Honduras 5 Centavos Pyramid Design (c. 1889)
1 in stock
This early issue from the Republic of Honduras features a striking design centered on the nation’s coat of arms — a radiant triangle enclosing a volcanic landscape, flanked by towers, with the Eye of Providence at its apex. The ornate frame bears the inscriptions “SERVICIO POSTAL” and “REPUBLICA DE HONDURAS”, with the denomination “5 CENTAVOS” prominently shown in all corners. Printed in a deep blue hue, this issue reflects the intricate engraving style characteristic of late-19th-century Central American stamps. The cancellation in violet adds historical postal authenticity.
Collector’s Note:
Issued around 1889–1890, this 5 centavos stamp is part of Honduras’ classic engraved definitive series, valued for its Masonic-inspired symbolism and elaborate design. Worn perforations and faint cancellations are common on surviving examples, enhancing its period charm.
