SCG7303 - Austria 1919 – 10 Kronen Postage Due (“Porto”) Stamp
1 in stock
This striking 10 Kronen postage due stamp was issued by Deutschösterreich (German-Austria) in 1919, during the turbulent post-World War I transition period following the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Printed in deep blue on buff paper, it belongs to the first “Portomarken” (postage due) series of the new republic.
The ornate design, created by J. Renner, features bold Gothic lettering with the denomination “10 Kronen” encircled by stylized ornaments, evoking imperial elegance while marking Austria’s early republican identity. These stamps were used to collect deficient postage, making them an essential part of postal administration during the era of inflation and currency reform.
