This beautiful two-stamp issue from Bermuda honors Joseph Stockdale (1754–1803) and the founding of The Bermuda Gazette, the island’s first newspaper. The 12¢ stamp depicts Stockdale himself, elegantly dressed and cheerfully delivering newspapers in St. George’s. The 30¢ stamp shows a printer at work, with the inaugural issue dated January 17, 1784, symbolizing Bermuda’s entry into the world of journalism. Both stamps feature the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and celebrate the island’s rich communication heritage.
