This 5 kopeck Soviet commemorative stamp, issued in 1990, celebrates the 45th anniversary of Victory Day marking the end of World War II. The artwork by A. Lysenko, titled “Victory. 1945”, depicts triumphant Soviet soldiers gathered at the Reichstag in Berlin, proudly holding their weapons and flags as symbols of victory and unity. Behind them, the inscriptions on the wall commemorate their journey “from Stalingrad to Berlin.” The Russian inscription at the top reads “С ПРАЗДНИКОМ ПОБЕДЫ!” (“Happy Victory Day!”), a phrase still used across Russia to honor the Great Patriotic War.
Collector’s Note:
Issued in the final year of the Soviet Union, this stamp captures both patriotic fervor and nostalgia for a defining moment in Soviet history. It stands as one of the last major WWII commemoratives of the USSR era, blending socialist realism with national pride.
