This 400-agorot commemorative stamp was issued by Israel in 1965 to mark the Golden Jubilee (50 years) of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, founded in 1906 by Boris Schatz. The design, by artist Zvi Narkiss, features the Bezalel building in Jerusalem rendered in geometric modernist style, topped with a menorah and overlaid with a stylized chalice, a motif from ancient Jewish art. The inscriptions appear in Hebrew, Arabic, and English, symbolizing cultural inclusivity.

This issue celebrates Israel’s artistic and cultural heritage — Bezalel being the country’s first art institution and the cornerstone of Israeli design.
