SCG6820 - Costa Rica 1962: II Convención Filatélica Centroamericana Overprint
1 in stock
This Costa Rican 2 centavos commemorative stamp honors two former presidents — Don Cleto González Víquez (1858–1937) and Don Ricardo Jiménez Oreamuno (1859–1945) — both celebrated for their contributions to democracy and public probity. The base design, issued in 1958–1959 for the centenary of their births, features oval portraits in red flanking an open book inscribed “Democracia, Libertad, Probidad.”
The example shown bears a bold red overprint reading:
“II Convención Filatélica Centroamericana / Setiembre 1962”, issued to mark the Second Central American Philatelic Convention held in San José, Costa Rica. Such overprints were created in limited quantities for collectors attending the event, making them desirable specializations within Costa Rican philately.
