This striking pair of Venezuelan airmail stamps was issued in 1963 to commemorate the 100th anniversary (1863–1963) of the Ministerio de Fomento (Ministry of Development). The 0.20 bolívares stamp in red hues depicts an industrial refinery scene symbolizing Venezuela’s growing petroleum and industrial might, while the 0.50 bolívares stamp in green tones shows a construction site with workers and a crane, representing modernization and infrastructure development.
