1 in stock
This Austrian Empire newspaper stamp, issued in 1916, features the classical profile of Mercury, the Roman god of messages and communication, wearing his winged helmet. It was part of the Kaiserlich-Königliche Österreichische Post (“Imperial and Royal Austrian Post”) issues designed specifically for newspapers. Printed in brown and inscribed “ZEITUNGSMARKE” (Newspaper stamp), it carries the denomination of 2 Heller. The stamp is imperforate, printed on thin paper, with the engraver’s name Rudolf Junk appearing below the design.
Widely collected for its elegant engraving and symbolic representation of communication, this issue belongs to one of Austria’s most recognizable classic series of newspaper stamps. Mint, unused examples with good margins are particularly valued by philatelists.
