1 in stock
These classic Spanish colonial issues of the Philippines feature the youthful portrait of King Alfonso XIII of Spain as a child, engraved with fine horizontal lines within an ornate frame. Printed with “FILIPINAS” at top, they were issued during the late 19th century when the Philippines was a Spanish colony.
-
Left stamp: 2⅜ Centimos de Peso, gray, with denomination prominently shown in fractional form at the bottom.
-
Right stamp: 2 Centimos de Peso, carmine-red, showing the same profile portrait but in a different denomination and color.
Designed by Bartolomé Maura y Montaner, these issues belong to the well-known “Baby Alfonso XIII” series, highly prized by philatelists for their elegant engravings, colonial history, and numerous printings, perforation varieties, and color shades. Collectors also seek them for their association with Spanish colonial postal history and their transitional role before U.S. administration of the islands.
