SCG4821 - Great Britain 1841 Penny Red – Plate 90, Lettering S-C
1 in stock
This is a classic Great Britain Penny Red from 1841, issued as the successor to the famous Penny Black. Printed in red-brown, it bears the profile of Queen Victoria facing left. The stamp shows check letters “S–C” in the lower corners, which served as security features to prevent forgery. A bold black Maltese Cross cancellation with bars is clearly visible across the design. Although surface wear and heavy cancellation obscure much of the portrait, this remains a collectible piece of mid-19th century postal history. Examples like this are prized by specialists for their plating, lettering, and cancellation varieties.
