SCG4819 - Great Britain 1858–1879 Penny Red (Plate Issue) – Position JA
1 in stock
This is a classic Great Britain One Penny Red stamp, issued between 1858 and 1879 under Queen Victoria. The design features a left-facing profile of Queen Victoria, with letters in the lower corners ("J" at left and "A" at right) denoting plate position. This example shows a black numeral cancellation, typical of the period, which partly obscures the portrait. The Penny Red replaced the Penny Black and became one of the most widely used Victorian issues. Collectors value these stamps for their plating varieties, cancellation types, and condition. This example has visible perforations and moderate wear consistent with postal use.
