This is a classic Great Britain 1 Penny Red stamp from the reign of Queen Victoria, issued between 1858 and 1879. The design features the left-facing profile of the young Queen Victoria, derived from the line-engraved portrait by William Wyon. It replaced the famous Penny Black, maintaining the same value but printed in red-brown ink. Each stamp carries corner check letters, here “I–F”, used for security and plate identification. Widely used in Victorian postal history, these stamps are treasured for their numerous plate varieties, cancellations, and historical importance. This example shows a clear circular barred cancellation, typical of the period.
