SCG4815 - Great Britain 1841 – Queen Victoria Penny Red (Plate Position J-E)
1 in stock
This is a classic Penny Red of Great Britain, issued in 1841 during the reign of Queen Victoria. The stamp features the left-facing profile of the young queen, designed by William Wyon and engraved by Charles Heath, derived from the iconic Penny Black. Printed in red-brown, it replaced the Penny Black to reduce reuse issues with black cancellations. This example shows the plate position letters J-E in the lower corners and a bold barred numeral cancellation “17.” Widely collected for its plate varieties, cancellations, and shade differences, the Penny Red is a cornerstone of Victorian philately.
