SCG4814 -Great Britain 1858–1879 Queen Victoria 1d Red (Plate Issue) – SG #43–44
1 in stock
This is a classic Great Britain 1d red stamp from the surface-printed line-engraved series, issued between 1858 and 1879 under Queen Victoria. It features the well-known left-facing portrait of the young Queen, framed within a checkered lattice design, with corner letters identifying the plate position — in this case “G – ?” (bottom corners). The denomination is inscribed as “ONE PENNY”. These stamps are famous among philatelists for their countless plate varieties and plate number identifications. The cancellation mark seen here is a bold “62” numeral obliterator in black. Collectors often seek out fine examples with clear strikes, rare plate numbers, and well-centered impressions, making this issue a cornerstone of classic British philately.
