SCG4808 - Great Britain 1841 Penny Red – Plate Numbered Issue
1 in stock
This is a classic Great Britain 1d Red (Penny Red), issued in 1841 as the successor to the Penny Black. Printed in red-brown, it features the profile of Queen Victoria based on William Wyon’s design. The stamp carries check letters “D” (lower left) and “D” (lower right) to denote its position on the plate. It is cancelled with a heavy black numeral obliterator, typical of period postal use. The Penny Red is highly collectible due to its long period of issue, numerous plate varieties, and wide use in mid-19th century British postal history.
