SCG4803 - Iraq 1934–1935 King Ghazi I 20 Fils Orange – Official “On State Service” Overprint
1 in stock
This Iraqi postage stamp features King Ghazi I (1912–1939), who reigned from 1933 until his untimely death in 1939. The design shows his portrait in a finely engraved frame with Arabic inscriptions, issued originally between 1934–1935. This particular example is denominated 20 Fils in orange. It has been overprinted “On State Service” in English, designating it for official government use rather than general postal circulation. Such official overprints are highly collectible as they represent administrative usage during the Hashemite monarchy period. Postmarked examples, like this one, provide historical authenticity and insight into postal operations in Iraq during the interwar years.
