SCG4236 - Russia Civil War – White Army Issue, 1920s (35k on 5000r Surcharge)
Out of stock
This striking provisional issue originates from the turbulent Russian Civil War period. The base stamp is an Imperial Russia 35 kopeck definitive (red and green, double-headed eagle in center) that has been boldly surcharged in blue with a new value of 5000 rubles and the overprint "ПОЧТА РУССКОЙ АРМИИ" (Post of the Russian Army). Such surcharges were produced by the White Army in South Russia, under General Wrangel, to meet the needs of hyperinflation and rapidly changing postal rates.
Scarce and historically important, these overprints reflect the struggle of the anti-Bolshevik forces and provide a fascinating insight into provisional postal operations during a chaotic era. Highly sought by specialists in Russian Civil War postal history, they remain key items for advanced collections of both Russia and military occupations.
