This is a classic Penny Red from Great Britain, issued between 1864–1879. It features the left-facing profile of Queen Victoria, engraved by Charles Heath and based on William Wyon’s design. Unlike earlier Penny Reds, this issue has alphabet corner letters (seen here as A–I at the lower corners), allowing identification of each stamp’s position on the printing sheet of 240.

The postmark is a barred numeral cancellation, with the number 829, which corresponds to a specific town or city in the British postal system of the period. The stamp is perforated (Perf 14) and printed in line-engraved technique on unwatermarked paper.

For collectors, the value depends on condition, plate number, and postmark rarity. Heavily used examples such as this one are common but still historically significant as they represent the workhorse stamp of Victorian Britain, widely used for everyday correspondence.
