SCG3986 - United Kingdom – 1841 Penny Red (Plate Position F-I)
1 in stock
This is a classic United Kingdom Penny Red, issued in 1841 as the successor to the world-famous Penny Black. Featuring the left-facing profile of Queen Victoria, the design mirrors the Penny Black but in red-brown to allow easier cancellation recognition. Each stamp includes corner check letters—in this case F (top left) and I (bottom right)—to identify its sheet position. Printed by Perkins, Bacon & Co., the Penny Red is a cornerstone of Victorian philately and remained in circulation until 1879. Well-collected for its plate varieties and cancellation marks, it is a key piece in any 19th-century British collection.
