SCG3968 - Germany Offices in China – 1 Cent Overprint on Germania Issue
1 in stock
This is a German colonial overprint stamp issued for use in German Post Offices in China during the early 20th century. The base stamp belongs to the Germania series of the Deutsches Reich, depicting the allegorical female figure Germania wearing a crown and holding regalia. To adapt it for colonial use, the original denomination was overprinted in black with “1 Cent” and the word “China” in Gothic script. Such overprints were applied to German definitive issues for use in foreign post offices to meet local currency requirements. These stamps hold strong historical value as they reflect Germany’s presence in China during the late Imperial period and are sought after by collectors of both German colonial and overprint issues.
