This is a U.S. postal stationery card originally issued with a 1¢ green Jefferson indicium, later revalued by the Post Office Department to 2¢ with a green boxed surcharge “REVALUED 2¢ P.O. DEPT.”. The card is postmarked Vallejo, California, July 24, 1952, and addressed to a patient at the Veterans Hospital in San Francisco.
The reverse carries a personal message dated July 24, 1952, reflecting correspondence between family members. Such revalued postal cards were produced when postal rates increased, allowing older stationery to remain valid with an official surcharge rather than reprinting entirely new cards.
This piece is a fine example of mid-20th century U.S. postal history, combining revalued postal stationery with a clear period usage and a personal wartime-era connection through the Veterans Hospital address.
