This commemorative cover was issued for the 50th State Convention of the Virginia Lions Clubs International, held in Richmond, Virginia, on May 24–26, 1973. The illustrated cachet features the Virginia state outline with the Lions International emblem, the state bird (cardinal), and dogwood blossoms, Virginia’s state flower. It bears the 8¢ "Rise of the Spirit of Independence" stamp (U.S. 1973), which commemorates the role of colonial printing in spreading revolutionary ideas. The cover is canceled with a special postmark from Richmond, Virginia, dated May 24, 1973, marking the first day of the convention.
