SCG3808 - Austria-Hungary 2 Kreuzer Postal Card (Galicia/Poland, ca. 1870s)
1 in stock
This unused postal card was issued during the Austro-Hungarian Empire for use in Galicia (present-day Poland). The heading "Correspondenz-Karte" appears in German, with the Polish equivalent "Karta korespondencyjna" printed below, reflecting the bilingual administration of the region.
The imprinted indicium at the top right shows the Austrian imperial double-headed eagle and carries the value 2 Kreuzer, printed in brown. It is inscribed "Kais. Königl. Oester. Post" (Imperial Royal Austrian Post). At the bottom right, the word (Poln.) indicates its distribution within the Polish-speaking territories.
This postal stationery item is significant as it demonstrates the multicultural character of the Austro-Hungarian postal system, tailored to regional languages while maintaining imperial authority. Unused examples in clean condition, such as this one, are sought after by collectors specializing in Austro-Hungarian postal history, Galicia/Poland issues, and 19th-century postal stationery.
