This is an Austrian Karten-Brief (letter card) issued in 1890, bearing a 5 Kreuzer indicium in carmine featuring the imperial double-headed eagle. The card was postmarked LEOPOLDSTADT (Vienna) on 1 May 1890 and addressed to Wolfenbüttel in the Duchy of Brunswick, Germany. The front shows corrections to the addressee’s details, a common postal practice of the era, while the reverse carries the sender’s inscription from Wien I.B., Plankengasse 4. Perforated edges are intact, reflecting its original detachable format.

This stationery highlights the postal reforms of late 19th-century Austria-Hungary, offering pre-paid convenience for domestic and foreign correspondence. Surviving examples with clear cancellations and full written addresses remain desirable to collectors of Austro-Hungarian postal history and cross-border communications within the German Empire.
