This classic Malaya stamp was issued for the state of Perlis and features a striking black design with the portrait of Raja Syed Putra Jamalullail, the ruler of Perlis. The Raja is depicted in traditional attire within an ornate oval frame flanked by palm trees, symbolizing Malaya’s tropical landscape. The inscriptions include “MALAYA” at the top, “PERLIS” just below, and the denomination of 1 cent in both Roman and Jawi scripts. Such issues are highly valued by collectors for their strong cultural identity and their representation of Malaya’s federated states prior to Malaysia’s independence in 1957.
