This historic Ethiopian postage stamp features Emperor Haile Selassie I, one of the most iconic figures of modern African history. Issued in the early 1930s, it shows the Emperor in regal attire, with intricate detail highlighting his crown and ornate uniform. The design is framed with traditional Ethiopian motifs, including a lion at the lower left and cultural symbols around the border. Printed by the Swiss firm Busag, Berne, this 1 Guerche denomination served as part of Ethiopia’s definitive series under Selassie’s reign. Highly sought after, it represents Ethiopia’s sovereignty during a turbulent era preceding the Italian invasion of 1935.
