Issued by Chile in 1970, this 0.40 escudo stamp commemorates the historic Voto Nacional (National Vow) made by Bernardo O'Higgins in 1818 after the Battle of Maipú. It features an engraved image of the crowned Virgin of Carmen (Nuestra Señora del Carmen), Chile’s patron saint, holding the Christ Child. This religious and patriotic vow solidified Chile’s independence and has deep spiritual significance in Chilean history. Printed by Casa de Moneda de Chile.
