In 1964, after the Zanzibar Revolution, the stamp received a bold “JAMHURI 1964” overprint along with the portrait of the new President, symbolizing the transition to the Republic of Zanzibar and Pemba.This overprint variety is historically significant, marking the brief but pivotal period just before the union forming Tanzania.
