This striking 30-cent stamp was originally issued by Zanzibar in 1963 to commemorate Uhuru (Independence). It features a stylized clove—one of Zanzibar’s most iconic agricultural symbols—rising before a radiant sunburst. In 1964, after the Zanzibar Revolution, the stamp received a bold “JAMHURI 1964” overprint along with the portrait of the new President, symbolizing the transition to the Republic of Zanzibar and Pemba. This overprint variety is historically significant, marking the brief but pivotal period just before the union forming Tanzania. A desirable item for collectors of African independence issues, overprints, and revolutionary-era postal history.
