1 in stock
This set of 15 Centavos stamps was issued for Mozambique under Portuguese colonial administration. The series commemorates Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, the Marquês de Pombal (1699–1782), one of Portugal’s most influential statesmen.
-
Top left: Depicts the grand monument to the Marquês de Pombal in Lisbon, erected in his honor.
-
Top right: Shows Pombal with architects and officials planning the reconstruction of Lisbon after the devastating 1755 earthquake.
-
Bottom: A portrait of the Marquês de Pombal himself, highlighting his prominence as a reformer and modernizer of Portugal.
Printed in brown shades, these stamps carry the overprint “MOÇAMBIQUE”, marking them specifically for colonial postal use. Such issues appeal strongly to collectors of Portuguese colonies, historical personalities, and Lisbon earthquake reconstructions.
